Preparatory Course - AEIS

E-mail Print PDF

This is a 6-month intensive course which prepares and equips students with a good foundation in English Language and Mathematics with a greater emphasis on the English Language. This foundational course will enable the students to participate in the AEIS Test administered by the Ministry of Education in Singapore. Lessons are structured in a progressive and systematic manner which the students will find them beneficial and manageable. 60% and 40% of the curriculum are apportioned between English Language and Mathematics respectively. Students are required to attend 6 hours of lessons per day for 5 days in a week.

The workforce in Singapore is generally bi-lingual and English is the medium of communication in the workplace. The ability to speak and write English effectively has become an essential skill in the workplace.

Singapore has established a strong and reputable education system. Singapore students have consistently produced good results in the GCE “O” level, GCE “A” level and International Baccalaureate examinations and these are recognized around the world. The education system is highly focused on the country’s need for an educated and skilled workforce to compete in a market. The universities in Singapore are ranked among the highest in the world. Though all students are bi-lingual, English is the medium of instruction in all schools.

The Primary education is a 6 years’ course from the age of 7. Upon completion of the primary education, students will take the common Primary School Leaving Examinations (PSLE). International students applying for admission to primary schools will be placed between primary 1 and 5 based on their AEIS exam performance.

The Secondary education system offers either a 4 year express course (GCE O Level) or a 5 year normal course (GCE N Level). Similarly, international students can seek admission to secondary schools and will be placed between secondary 1 and 3 based on their AEIS exam performance.

International students seeking admission to primary and secondary schools in Singapore should be familiar with the English and Mathematics syllabi which are taught in English. They should prepare themselves for these 2 subjects before participating in the centralized AEIS (Admission Exercise for International Students) test. It is to their advantage to undertake preparatory courses before the taking the AEIS test. International students who miss the AEIS test and desire to seek admission into the mainstream schools in Singapore may approach their preferred schools directly after taking the Qualifying Test which is also under the purview of the Ministry of Education.
